Personal Development
In Personal Development, we take a journey into relevant and current issues that affect every one of us in our day-to-day lives. Through looking at topics such as identity, human rights, LGBTQ+ and careers. We examine a range of different areas in order to enlighten students about the ever-changing world around them. Students are not assessed at the end of year 11 in this subject because it is designed to give students an understanding of the world around them, which can be taken into adulthood and beyond.

Key Stage 4
In both year 9 and 10, we look at controversial topics such as gangs and terrorism, that allows students to discuss and explore different points of view, and to build on their own opinions. In year 9, part of the course focuses on the implications and the impact that gangs have on society, and the reasons why people join gangs. In year 10, we build a range of different topics, from environmentalism through to terrorism and extremism, looking at the current political and social climate, and investigating how and why people have extremist views.
We begin to focus on other topics such as careers progression after year 11, as well as the environment, finance and mental health. Students begin to prepare themselves for their journey ahead of them, for when they finish school, allowing students to become more independent, and to understand the value of self-reflection and individual wellbeing in order to become more independent learners. Students will also be able to develop their emotional wellbeing as they prepare for their GCSEs.
The Relationships and Sex Education Policy is located in Policies and Guidance.
